{"id":197,"date":"2008-07-13T17:19:58","date_gmt":"2008-07-14T00:19:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kellybakst.com\/?p=197"},"modified":"2008-07-28T09:40:21","modified_gmt":"2008-07-28T16:40:21","slug":"35-hours-to-get-an-iphone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kellybakst.com\/?p=197","title":{"rendered":"3.5 hours to get an iPhone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Knew I wouldn&#8217;t get it on Friday, so figured I&#8217;d cruise in on Saturday (like I did last year) to get the new iPhone 3G.\u00c2\u00a0 Got to the mall, and there were EASILY 300 people in line.\u00c2\u00a0 Um &#8211; no.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;d try Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Picked up Sydney Ellen at 7:45 in the morning from a friends house after the Jonas Brothers concert (in her words &#8220;The best concert I&#8217;ve ever seen in my entire life&#8221;), had breakfast at a luxurious Denny&#8217;s, and headed to the Northridge mall.\u00c2\u00a0 Only 11 people in line &#8211; but this was 2 HOURS before the store opened at 11am.\u00c2\u00a0 Since Sydney was getting my old iPhone, she was all for waiting.\u00c2\u00a0 So we waited.<\/p>\n<p>11am the doors open and&#8230;.nothing.\u00c2\u00a0 No movement.\u00c2\u00a0 Turns out they were letting people in that were turned away at midnight Saturday night &#8211; about 10 of them &#8211; and then started letting the rest of us in.\u00c2\u00a0 One at a time to not just buy, but &#8220;activate&#8221; the phones in the store.\u00c2\u00a0 I assume this is to keep people from getting a phone without a contract, and then Jailbreaking it to use with another provider.\u00c2\u00a0 Whatever.\u00c2\u00a0 It was a major PITA.<\/p>\n<p>Finally our turn came, and the whole process to 15 minutes.\u00c2\u00a0 Time to play with the over 500 apps available and more coming every day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Knew I wouldn&#8217;t get it on Friday, so figured I&#8217;d cruise in on Saturday (like I did last year) to get the new iPhone 3G.\u00c2\u00a0 Got to the mall, and there were EASILY 300 people in line.\u00c2\u00a0 Um &#8211; no.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;d try Sunday.
